Former State Senator Vincent Fort is running for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia’s 13 Congressional District, currently held by Rep. David Scott.
Fort served in the Georgia State Senate from the 39th district from 1996 to 2017.
Fort is a progressive who can’t be bought by special interests and always fights for working-class people, not self-interest. In Congress, he will fight for a 15-dollar minimum wage, the Green New Deal, pass Build Back Better, cancel student debt, Universal Medicare for All, decriminalize marijuana, free 2-year college, and end the filibuster.
At a press conference at the State Capitol, Fort said, “Scott has been in politics for 48 years and has assembled a record of corruption.”
Fort claims his opponent David Scott is unfit to fulfill the duties of this job. “It is widely discussed in Washington and in his district that Scott’s physical and mental capabilities are seriously declining. It is a disservice to the constituents to run if you aren’t up to the job,” Fort said.
POLITICO recently reported that some Democratic lawmakers are trying to get Scott to give up his position as Chair of the House Agriculture Committee due to questions about his effectiveness.
Ten lawmakers who detailed concerns about Scott spoke to POLITICO on conditions of anonymity in order to talk candidly about the sensitive situation. Problems they found concerning are his instances of inability to finish his thoughts, remember previous conversations, halting speech, and trouble focusing on a topic. One Democrat said, “I don’t know if it’s his health, but something is wrong.”
Over the years questions have come up concerning Rep. Scott’s finances.
Fort said, “Scott was funneling campaign money to his personal business and his family; at that time, it was $750,000. Also, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sent a letter to the Department of Justice asking the DOJ to investigate Scott for using his congressional staff in his political campaigns.”
In 2007, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington sent a letter to the Acting Attorney General Peter Keisler that requested an investigation into whether Rep. David Scott violated federal tax laws and prohibitions on using congressional staff for campaign purposes.

“We uncovered an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaint by an administrative assistant at the State Capitol, who accused Scott of sexual harassment, and the case went to federal court. He settled that sexual harassment suit for $190,000. That settlement was snuck into the state budget, so taxpayers paid for Scott’s settlement. I will make the files available to anyone who wants to see them,” Fort said.
The Democratic primary election is on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, and the General Election is on November 8, 2022.
