Extremists, liars, sexual harassers, and religious fundamentalists on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ushering in an era of terror, suffering, and enslavement for women.
Associate Justice Samuel Alito wrote the majority opinion, joined by Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.
Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett were appointed by the most corrupt, lying, racist, fascist, violent President in the history of this county. Their self-righteous religious decision to take away women’s privacy, health care, choice, and bodily rights will kill many women and cause great suffering. The justices don’t care because they live in an Ivory Town of privileges disconnected from the reality and hardship of life for most women.
In Atlanta, thousands of people turned out at the State Capitol with only a few hours of notice. The majority were under 40 as Washington Street in front of the Capitol overflowed with angry young women and men. They were angry at Republicans for overturning Roe and at Democrats for not doing more to protect women from these far-right Republican extremists.
One young woman said, “We are not going to stand for old white men and their dark money being unaccountable to the people and making decisions about our bodies and taking away our rights,”
“The Supreme Court has taken away my Miranda rights, Fourth Amendment rights, my right to my bodily autonomy, but they have given rights to guns,” another young woman said.
“If Mitch McConnell and Justices Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, mistresses got pregnant; they will get an abortion. We see the divide between the rich and the poor; the access is cut off to the poor,” another woman said.
The Supreme Court justices, in a 5 to 4 decision, overturned 50 years of women’s reproductive rights. Over 70% of the American public supports a woman’s right to abortion, but the Supreme Court is out of touch and not listening to the public.
Already, abortion trigger bans have gone into effect in Kentucky, Louisiana, South Dakota, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Utah. The abortion policy is now set at the state level, and abortion in many more states will soon become illegal. In Georgia, abortion is legal until 20 weeks after fertilization. The six-week ban in Georgia is being decided in court.
Gerald Griggs, President of Georgia NAACP, recalls that his ancestors did not have control over their bodies, which enslaved millions of people. It is the same philosophy when they say, “let the states decide.” Because when states decide on women’s reproductive rights, abortions will have extreme limitations or be illegal in red states.
According to an analysis of state laws on abortions by POLITICO, the states where abortions are legal through pregnancy are Alaska, Colorado, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont. In many other states, abortions are legal until viability, but viability differs in different states.
“Women have the absolute right to choose their health care and should not be dictated to by the government about what to do with their body. It’s not 1850 or 1950,” Griggs said.
Abortion is only the beginning of the rights this Republican control Supreme Court wants to take away. Clarence Thomas wants to take away rights to birth control, same-sex intimacy, and the right to same-sex marriage. Can voting rights and civil rights be far behind on this nightmare runaway train rushing toward a theocratic fascist government controlled by a tyranny of the minority?
Thanks to Republicans in some states, a 13-year-old child abused and repeatedly raped by a father will be forced to give birth to her sibling. These so-called Christians have no problem destroying this child’s dreams and life. They care more about gun rights than children and women’s rights.
You can get a list of politicians in your state who voted not to make an exception for rape or incest, post their names everywhere, and work to defeat them in November. If you dig deeper, you may find out they are rapists or hate women because no decent man would vote that way.
“In November, your rights are on the ballot because they [republicans] did not only come for reproductive rights, they came for voting rights, for civil rights, they denied us healthcare, denied us access to quality education, all of this is on the ballot in November,” Griggs said.
Vote in November like your rights depend on it because they do.
