Supreme Court Enacts Religion To Outlaw Abortion

The Republican-controlled Supreme Court is out of control and out of touch with the American people. It is beginning to have more in common with the Taliban, a violent fundamentalist religious faction that dominates and brutalizes women, than with democracy.

The narrow interpretation of the Bible by fundamental religious extremists who wrote this law and worked to get justices on the Supreme Court who would overturn Roe v. Wade ignores many different interpretations of the Bible.

For example, the first chapter of Genesis says that “life begins at the time of drawing the first breath,” NOT that life begins at ejaculation, as Republicans claim.

The five justices gave states the right to make laws concerning women’s bodies, and extremist Republicans control 30 states. In some Republican-controlled states, strict laws ban all abortions, even in cases of rape or incest, while other states enforce the six-week abortion ban.

States with forced birth laws are legalizing involuntary servitude of women, with the state controlling a woman’s choice and body. In effect, pregnant women are the property of the state to be forced to give birth to a baby, which a woman may not be able to financially or emotionally care for.

Justice Barrett’s solution is to give the baby up for adoption. In her privileged fantasyland world, that might be possible. However, in the real world, foster care is already overrun with unplanned children. They are often bounced from one foster home to another, where some are abused. Republicans are notorious for cutting funds from programs that help poor children and families out of poverty.

According to the University of California, women forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term are four times more likely to live below the federal poverty level.

Secretary Janet Yellen said access to abortion rights directly impacts working women’s educational levels and future earnings, and the data bears this out.

Remember, it is mainly Republicans who call women who have lots of children lazy “Welfare Queens” who are stealing our hard-earned tax dollars. Poor women are damned if you do, and damn if you don’t have children.

Since Republicans only care about the unborn, Is there another agenda behind these draconian abortion laws that take away rights?

Trump and his kind have publicly said they want a White Christian Nation, but  America is a multi-racial, multicultural, multi-religion country.  So what do they plan to do with all the people of color, different religions,  gay people, and white folks who don’t fit their Aryan White Christian Nation plan? Could it be a fundemtanlists theocratic authoritarian dictatorship ruled by Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis? It sort of looks that way.

THE RESISTANCE

The resistance started when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. In cities and towns across the nation, thousands of marches and ongoing vigils support a woman’s right to bodily autonomy. People are outraged and upset at the disrespect for women’s rights and human rights the Supreme Court has shown by overturning 50 years of precedent law.

In Atlanta, with only a few hours’ notice, thousands of young women and men turned up at the state capitol to protest the Supreme Court’s decision to take away women’s rights to safe and legal abortions.

A week later, dozens of young people are still at an ongoing sit-in at the state capitol in the sweltering heat, rain downpours, violent thunderstorms, harassment from the police, and threats from anti-choice demonstrators.  Their resistance, determination, and courage to support women’s rights in the face of obstacles is what patriotism and democracy looks like.

A young woman at the sit-in said, “It’s terrifying to see them [Supreme Court] abuse this type of power when 75% of America supports abortion. They are taking away fifty years of precedent. If they can take away women’s reproductive rights, who knows what else they can take away?”

According to Justice Clarence Thomas, what’s next is same-sex marriage and birth control. He has publicly invited new legal challenges to contraception and same-sex marriage rights.

“I’m Jewish, and in my faith, it’s mandated that if a pregnant woman is in jeopardy, medically or mentally in any capacity, they are mandated to get an abortion. To remove the ability to access abortion is a violation of my faith. It is cementing America as a Christian theocracy, which is not what this country was founded on. It violates the separation of church and state. I have friends who are talking about moving to find somewhere else to live.” a young Jewish man told the Street of Atlanta.

A Florida synagogue filed a lawsuit claiming the new abortion laws are incompatible with Jewish religious law and violate the constitutional right to freedom of religious expression. According to numerous news reports, this lawsuit may offer a template for other legal challenges.

“We are not a Christian country; we are free to practice different religions. So you cannot enact a law that goes against other religions. We are out here fighting for the right to provide abortions for everyone who needs one, women’s rights, and human rights in general. They start with women’s rights, but it can escalate from here, and we need to stop it now before it gets worse,” Lady Liberty said.

“We have been in the hot sun and rain every day for over a week and will continue.  We have a massive community supporting us by donating supplies like water, hot meals, extra clothing, umbrellas, and raincoats. We are out here under umbrellas holding up science and supporting women’s rights to an abortion,” Lady Liberty said.

A young Black man said, “We are out here because of the injustice; none of this is right. It is an attack on reproductive rights, an attack on healthcare, and it is an attack on just being human. The attacks will not stop with people with uteruses but also with the queer community, poor people, people of color, and people who can’t go to another state to get a safe abortion. Abortion will not stop; it will become illegal, dangerous, and not safe anymore.”

“We are out here fighting with people who fought for abortion rights 50 years ago, and now they are back out here fighting the same fight again; it’s crazy.”

When this reporter asked him how he would stop this law, he said, “First, we must show them that we will not accept this unjust law. Second, we must show up at the polls and vote for people who will protect our rights at the state level.”

These young women and men are not giving their names for safety reasons because the more attention they get, the more negative attention they get from anti-choice groups.

Also, the police are harassing them and making it difficult for them to stay. They plan to comply with whatever the police tell them to do regardless of how hard it gets. They are not allowed to sleep overnight at the capitol because of urban camping laws that target homeless people who have no place else to sleep except outside. The people at the sit-in must move their stuff back daily at 6 AM and pack everything up at 6 PM.

It will take everyone in the resistance to turn this partisan religious law around because everyone who is not an Aryan White so-called Christian Nationalist will eventually be negatively affected by it.

This abortion law is tyranny by the minority over the majority. Time for the majority to stand up, show up and vote in people who respect democracy and human rights and put the needs of the people over petty party politics or tyrants who plan to stay in power by overthrowing the government to prop up a dictator

DEMOCRATS COULD HAVE DONE MORE TO SAVE ABORTION RIGHTS

People begged President Biden for over a year to issue an Executive Order to help protect abortion rights, but he was not proactive. He says people need to vote for more Democrats.

Indeed, Democrats do not have control of the Senate because Senators Joe Manchin (D-WVA) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) refused to support a carve-out to the filibuster to codify abortion rights and voting rights, nor did they vote for the Build Back Better Bill. These two Democrats’ inaction is responsible for many of today’s problems.

Biden has not taken the issue of reproductive rights seriously, and now people are demanding bold action. Senators have suggested establishing abortion clinics on federal land in states with abortion bans.  Abortion clinics could be installed on military bases without dealing with a state’s abortion bans.

Biden does not have the political courage or will to expand the Supreme Court, which is the only thing that will stop this Court from taking away more rights.

According to a Reuters article, “Biden is concerned that such a radical move would be politically polarizing ahead of the November midterm elections and undermine public trust in the Supreme Court.”

Declaring war on women and threatening to take LGBTQI rights away is why people don’t trust the Supreme Court.

However, there are little pockets of resistance in unlikely places; in some counties, prosecutors say they will not prosecute women who get an abortion or doctors who perform abortions.

The Resistance will continue and grow stronger until everyone has human rights and democracy is safe from want-to-be-dictators.
