Jewish Voice for Peace Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza

The Atlanta chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) joined a national call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza as the death toll of Palestinian civilians is now over five thousand.

When the speakers started, they were disrupted by pro-Israeli protesters who shouted down the speakers. It was difficult to hear what was said over the shouting, pushing, screaming, and calling Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), not real Jews.

Judy Conder’s video below shows the chaos JVP endured to get its message out. I have seen this type of disruption before. The purpose of these religious zealots is to prevent information from getting out about the ongoing genocide of Palestinian civilians.

The next day, JVP sent 0ut the statement below and a link to the speeches. Please open and read all the links for information the disruptors tried to censor.

JEWISH VOICE FOR PEACE STATEMENT AND LINK TO THE SPEECHES THAT WERE DISRUPTED

Read the powerful words of our speakers, read our collective statement, and take action with us.

Tuesday night, over 250 Atlantans came together in Woodruff Park to stand alongside us as Jews to call for a ceasefire and to demand that our grief not be weaponized against Palestinians. We prayed, mourned, sang, and created community together.

Also, around 20 Zionist and pro-Israel counter-protestors screamed at, threatened, hit, shoved, spit, and berated Jewish Atlantans for calling for a ceasefire. Attendees were called horrific homophobic, sexist, and anti-semitic slurs.

We are deeply grateful for those who attended, the people who worked tirelessly to organize the event, and the brave Peace Marshals and attendees who stepped up to protect us and the space we were trying to build together.

We won’t be silenced because our Jewish tradition is rooted in the belief that all human life is sacred. We are called to action by our faith and our conscience to demand loud and clear that our pain not be used to justify further acts of war, violence, and genocide.

This version replaces the one I sent out earlier today that had mistakes, and the design was confusing to some.
